Feeling Horizons in Sound on this week's micro/Maker

Plus: what does it mean to let go of creative expectations?

🍃 Loose Leaf Transmissions – Weekly Dispatch

Hey there, folks! Before we dive into the new stuff, just a tiny favor that helps in a big way…

If you’ve been enjoying either of the podcasts, one of the best (and totally free!) ways to support it is by following the show in your podcast app. That little follow button? It tells the algorithm gods that this work matters – and helps more people find it.

Even better, if you turn on automatic downloads, it gives the show a small but meaningful boost in visibility. It might not seem like much, but those download numbers really do matter: once the show hits a certain threshold, I’ll be able to start pitching to sponsors, applying for funding, and unlocking opportunities that help sustain this work over the long haul.

It’s just a couple clicks to follow and turn on auto-download on Spotify!

Just as easy to do on Apple Podcasts!

It might not seem like much, but it really does make a difference. So if you haven’t done it yet… maybe this is your sign?

And if you’ve got it in your budget, another way to support is by joining the Patreon – just $5/month, and it helps me keep the lights on while making this work.

Thanks, as always, for being here. This week on micro/Maker, you’ll hear from Shelley Washington and Hannah Boissonneault – two composers reflecting on how place, collaboration, and intuition continue to shape their creative lives.

🔜 Coming Up Soon

On the next music/Maker, I’ll be joined by Nicolás Lell Benavides, whose music is often seeded by a sense of story.

Nicolás is making some of my favorite music right now and happens to be one of the most generous conversationalists I’ve had on the show.

In this episode, Nicolás shares why his music is grounded more in curiosity and dialogue than autobiography, weaving together stories of cottonwoods and irrigation, sage grouse and New Mexican folk saints — all while tracing how that exploration ties back to family and heritage. He also speaks candidly about the opera process, the challenge of revision, and how working with brilliant collaborators continues to shape his sense of purpose in the work.

Listen in next week!
